Research Workshop
Hot Points in Astrophysics

Dubna, Russia, August 22-26, 2000





General Information
The Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) will organize a small workshop on some basic present day problems of astrophysics. The workshop will be held on 22 - 26 August 2000 at the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, JINR, Dubna Moscow region, Russia.



Some topics of scientific program
Organizers do not want to force a definition of "hot points in astrophysics", so any issues that are now in the focus of astroparticle physics can be included in the program. At the moment, we have the following suggestions:
  1. Early Universe (primordial nucleosynthesis, primordial black holes);
  2. Hot Universe and cosmology (dark matter, supernova explosions,neutron stars, reactions at astrophysical conditions, cosmological models, astrophysical consequences of screening nuclear reactions);
  3. Binary systems (accretion discs, behavior of white dwarfs as tracers of galactic evolution).

Finances
Conference fee in the amount of 200 USD will include: transportation from Sheremetevo airport and back, accommodation in Hotel Dubna, conference dinner, coffee and refreshments, proceedings and bus excursion to Kremlin (Moscow). The Organizing Committee has applied to several funds for financial aid and, in the case of success of these applications, we hope to be able to provide financial support to a limited number of participants.



Proceedings
Proceedings of the workshop (1 volume) are expected to be published by Publishing Department of JINR (Dubna). The Proceedings will be printed from camera--ready manuscripts. Instructions for the authors will be given in the Second Circular.



Second Circular
The Second Circular is distributed ( to the registered persons only ) since middle of June. It contains a preliminary program of the workshop and the travel information.



Venue
The workshop will be held in Dubna - a small "town of scientists" 130 kilometers north of Moscow situated on the banks of famous Russian river Volga. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere of the town promote the fruitful informal discussions. At the same time due to the communication facilities (email, fax, phone) one is not cut off from the rest of the world.
