BACKGROUND: On the initiative of the JINR and South Africa nuclear physics institutions the 1st DST-UNISA-JINR Symposium was organized at Skukuza, Kruger National Park, in February 2007. It helped to establish a fruitful collaboration between these nuclear physics communities.

PRESENT MEETING: The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research will host the 2nd Symposium in Dubna in the period September 8-10, 2010. The symposium will include two days of presentations and discussions, namely September 8-9, 2010. September 10, 2010 is presumed for an excursion to the JINR Laboratories. The main goal of the meeting is to extend the cooperation among physicists from the JINR and South Africa. This kind of brainstorming meeting will discuss the scope, success and prospective of nuclear physics. However, related questions in particle, atomic, molecular, computational and mathematical physics and in other related areas will also be considered. Speakers are expected to provide somewhat extended details of their research topic, questions addressed, and future trends in the field. The methods covered will serve as guidance not only for the pending collaboration but also as a substrate material for the students and young researchers at both sides that will enable them to participate in common research projects.
