First Bulletin.
The X International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics (SYMPHYS-10) organized by the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and International Center for Advanced Studies at Yerevan State University will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, August 13-19, 2003.
The first five Conferences were initiated by Professor Ya.A. Smorodinsky (Professor Ya.A.Smorodinsky (1917-1992) was an outstanding theoretical physicist. For a long time he worked at the Kurchatov Center. Professor Ya.A.Smorodinsky made a large contribution to the elementary particle physics, nuclear physics, and to invistigation of various aspects of symmetries in Physics), and were organized by the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering in Obninsk from 1986 to 1991. The next three Conferences of this series were held at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna in 1993, 1995 and 1997 and the last one (SYMPHYS-9) was held in Yerevan State University in Yerevan, Armenia 2001.
The SYMPHYS-10 Conference is devoted to modern studies on group theoretical methods in physics and covers fields of research where the symmetry methods play an important role. The preliminary programme includes the following topics:
We are planning also as substructure of conference organizing the Symposium Contractions of Classical and Quantum Groups, devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Inonu-Wigner paper (co-organizer Marc de Montigny; e-mail: montigny@phys.ualberta.ca).
The programme of the Conference includes around 30 (45 and 30 minutes) talks scheduled for six morning sessions. The contributions (30 and 20 minutes) talks will be presented at the afternoon sessions (except Tuesday, August 19). We are planning to have only two parallel sessions.
Contributions to be given as a talk will be selected on recommendation of the International Advisory Committee. All other contributions will be presented as posters.
A total of about 120 scientists from all over the world are expected to attend the Symphys-10 Conference. It is scheduled to have six days (the Sunday, August 17 is excursion day) and the lectures start on Wednesday, August 13, at 10 a.m. and end on Tuesday, August 19 at noon. The arrival day is Tuesday, August 12 and departure day is Wednesday, August 20. The Conference Registration Desk at the University Guest House will be open between 14.00 and 22.00 on Tuesday, August 12 and will continue the next morning.

The Conference will be held at the Hotel of Yerevan State University.
Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is situated in mountains at a height of 950 - 1200 meters above the sea level, on the bank of the river Hrazdan. The river flows from Lake Sevan, 50 km from Mt. Ararat of biblical fame. Its majestic peak and the rolling Ararat Valley are very much a part of Yerevan's landscape.
Yerevan has art galleries with very extensive collections of classical and modern art, concert halls, Opera house, all very close to University Hotel. Armenia is famous for its many historical monuments which are within 45min. - 1.5 hours driving distance from Yerevan. These are churches built in the 5th and 6th centuries, over 2 thousand year old temples, 3 thousand year old archaeological excavations of kingdom Urartu etc.
Participants will be accommodated in the University Hotel and Hotel Erebuni.
University Hotel contains four categories of appartments.
- Two-room suite for two persons;
- Single room for one person;
- Double room for two persons.
- Two-room block for three persons. It contains one single room (one bed) and one double room (two beds);
Hotel Erebuni contains the two categories of appartments.
Please inform the Organizing Committee not later than 31 May by e-mail or fax the category of room you are planning to occupy.
- Single room for one person;
- Double room for two persons.
The conference fee covers eight days hotel accommodation in University Hotel and Hotel Erebuni (including breakfast and lunch), the cost of transportation from Yerevan airport and back, conference materials, coffee breaks, welcome party, two daily excursion (one with barbecue).
Depending on the category of rooms in the University Hotel and Hotel Erebuni the conference fee is:
US$ 330 (for one person) - double room (in a two - room block)
US$ 370 - single room (in a two - room block)
US$ 400 (for one person) - double room
