Second Bulletin
The Conference takes place in the year of celebration
of the 1700-th anniversary of adoption
of Christianity in Armenia
This BULLETIN contains important information on practical and scientific aspects of the
IX International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics .
There will be one more BULLETIN mailed in the first half of June.
It will contain the tentative program and detailed information concerning the preparation
of the Conference Proceedings.
Scientific Programme
The main topics to be discussed at the Conference are:
- Integrable and superintegrable systems;
- Contractions of Lie groups and quantum groups;
- Algebraic structures beyond Lie algebras;
- Quantum algebras and groups, Q-special functions;
- Periodic and aperiodic structures;
- Quantum field theory and strings;
- Gravitation, cosmology, quantum gravity;
- Condensed matter and statistical physics;
- Quantum optics and coherent states;
- Symmetry in nuclear and atomic physics;
- Symmetries of differential and difference equations;
- Mathematical methods.
We are planning a special session devoted to the 50th anniversary of the Chair of Theoretical Physics at Yerevan State University and to the memory of Academician Gourgen Sahakyan (1913-2000). Academician Gourgen Sahakyan was an outstanding theoretical
physicist who made an enormous contribution to the physics of neutron stars and to the theory of gravitation. He founded the Chair of Theoretical Physics at Yerevan State University and headed it for many years.

gistration along with the conference material.
Conference site
The Conference will be held at the Physics Department of Yerevan State University.
Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is situated in mountains at a height of 950-1200 meters above the sea level, on the bank of the river Hrazdan. The river flows from Lake Sevan, 50 km from Mt. Ararat of biblical fame. Its majestic peak and the rolling A

Yerevan has art galleries with very extensive collections of classical and modern art, concert halls, Opera house, all very close to University. Armenia is famous for its many historical monuments which are within 45min. - 1.5 hours driving distance fr
om Yerevan. These are churches built in the 5th and 6th centuries, over 2 thousand year old temples, 3 thousand year old archaeological excavations of kingdom Urartu etc.
The climate in Yerevan in June is warm (28-32 degrees C), sunny and dry.
